 Commentary from Politics Is A Contact Sport: The problem with politics is that you have to WORK at being informed in order to have an informed opinion. You can’t sit in front of the TV, watching your political-channel-of-choice and just blindly adopt their advocacy. You must be able to ferret out facts (and have the mental discipline to separate opinion from fact from “common knowledge”), listen to opposing viewpoints, and learn enough about the issues in order to inform your opinion. Most of us don’t have the time or the inclination to do that. Which is a shame. Our collective failure to do this led to the calamitous presidency of George W. It also led to the equally disastrous Congress that is currently in session, spawned in great part to the Tea Party movement: a 21st Century version of the Know Nothing Party. And that didn’t work out too well, did it?
